Weighbridge security was recently upgraded at a landfill site in Victoria to prevent vehicles from inadvertently exiting the site without paying.

Supplied by Ultrahawke in Melbourne, the Benalla Landfill Site is regularly operated by a single operator responsible for both the weighbridge and dozer operation.

Security upgrades made to the weighbridge included the installation of traffic lights and a boom gate to prevent loaded trucks from entering the site without first attaining a weighbridge ticket. The boom gate also restricts vehicles from exiting the site without weighing out over the weighbridge.

The difference between the Weigh In and Weigh Out weight tickers from the weighbridge is used to calculate dumping charges.

To enable the weighbridge operator to confirm the type of waste being brought to the landfill site, a CCTV camera was mounted overhead to display an image of the vehicle’s contents on a monitor. The same CCTV camera also captures images of the truck/trailer registration plates as they exit the weighbridge.
